How long does it take to recover from a tooth extraction?

My son has a cavity in his tooth. He eats a lot of chocolates. I always warn him not to eat more chocolates. But he never listened. He also has poor oral hygiene. He doesn't like to brush his teeth at night. It is his milk tooth and I am worried that the decay will spread to other teeth. Even though he has a cavity in his tooth, it didn't cause any pain. So I also didn't bother about it much. But yesterday he was having difficulty in eating ice-cream. He took a lot of time to finish his favorite ice-cream. I wondered what had happened to him. I asked him about this and he told me that his tooth was paining while having ice-cream. I took him to a dental clinic in Toronto. The doctor examined him and suggested for tooth extraction treatment. I don't know how he reacts to the procedure. How long does it take to recover from a tooth extraction? When can he eat food after having his tooth pulled? Are there any special diets to follow after the tooth extraction? Please reply to my queries. Any advice is highly appreciated. Thank you!
