After my daughter was born, my then husband and I decided to wait on having another baby. When she was five years old, we separated and later divorced. About two years ago, I met the love of my life and we conceived a child together. We are planning to be married this upcoming year. Though my pregnancy ended in miscarriage, we want to have many more children together. I'm in my mid thirties and worried that I'm 'too old' to have another baby. I don't know what type of medical problems that I might face. And, maybe there would be other obstacles that I'm not considering. Can you please tell me?

There's no reason to think you are too old. There have been women in their sixties who had babies. With modern medical technology, there's no reason to believe you can't have a healthy pregnancy.

So long as you take good care of your body and keep your prenatal visits, you will be fine.

Although there is some risk with having a baby at a later age, most of these risks can be easily managed with proper diet and exercise.

Your doctor may insist upon an amnio at some point. You will need to decide if this is the right choice for you as there are risks involved.

Hi dear. My story is almost same to you. I was also suffering from a miscarriage at the age of 37 but then my husband took me to Lotus Center in Ukraine and it all changed suddenly. My life blossomed again by using their tips. Now I am blessed with a sweet girl. The biggest obstacle for women age 35 or older may be getting pregnant in the first place. Fertility rates begin to decline gradually at age 30, more so at 35, and markedly at age 40. Even with fertility treatments such as in vitro fertilization, women have more difficulty getting pregnant as they age. Women also have more trouble staying pregnant as they get older: The rates of miscarriage and ectopic pregnancy go up substantially with age. Infertility evolution is generally recommended for women who have been trying for 12 months or longer. But if you're 35 or older, don't wait a whole year. Get an evaluation after six months, or sooner if you suspect that something may not be right – such as if your periods aren't regular, or if you've had previous abdominal surgery. Once you conceive, and you get past the first trimester miscarriages, you face a higher risk of conceiving a baby with a chromosomal problem. This risk goes up every year. If you get pregnant at age 25, your risk of having a baby with Down Syndrome. If you'll be 35 or older on your due date, you'll be offered genetic counseling. This is normally done by your obstetrician after you show up pregnant, but increasingly, couples are opting for "pre-conceptual counseling" – an opportunity to plan ahead and get information before getting pregnant. If you're considering getting pregnant, see your doctor or midwife for a thorough examination. Your provider will take a detailed medical and family history of both prospective parents to identify conditions that might affect your pregnancy or your chances of getting pregnant.

Hi, Jilly. I read your post and your problem very well. don't feel depressed. what's your age right now?. I’m 39 now, I married 2 years ago and I want to have a baby, I was worried and afraid. But when I heard about pop star Janet Jackson who announced that she was pregnant at the grand age of 49. I was encouraged to have IVF treatment. but before I had IVF, I had a healthy diet. I ate organic food and fresh vegetables. I stayed away from fast food and alcohol drinks. I made more exercise because I wanted to lose my weight. Then I searched for the best clinic for IVF and I found this forum and some girl talking about her successful IVF at Kyiv in Ukraine. So that, I decided to go there to have successful IVF. Now I have a young girl. Don’t give up and visit a specialist clinic.

Hi Jilly! I am very sorry about your miscarriage. I know how it feels because I had 6 MCs. I'm glad to see that you decided not to stop and keep going to your dream of having children with your future husband. Don't even think that you are too old! You're absolutely not. You are a young woman and you deserve to have as much kids as you want. I think you should do all medical checks needed to know about the condition of your health to continue your ttc. There are so many women who try to conceive even after 50 years! The most important thing is your desire. So don't listen to anyone who tells you that you are old or it's too late. Good luck dear!

One is too old to conceive only when menopause hits. Before that I don't think there is such thing as too old to conceive. The problem is with missinfromation that exists all around us. Recent studies show that once a women enter her 30 she has 1.3% less chances to conceive. Once you reach your 40 that percentage increases to 1.9 or 2.2, depending on many factors. Whatever is is that number is so smaaall. You have practically as much chances as any other women around here. No need to worry about anything. Start TTC if you want a baby, and hopefully you will be blessed with one. The only thing that can stop this would be fertility issues. Again though even if that's the case, it doesn't matter that much. There are many, many treatments for that. Just like at me... I have no uterus at all and I still have high hopes for a baby. Wish you well deary. may all your dreams come true.

I completely agree with you. Even after menopause women try to have a baby. There is always an option of using donor eggs. Thanks to this way of treatment they get pregnant and give birth. Yes, chances to conceive decrease with years but that percentage is really small. Especially considering the fact that in nowadays society women tend to have babies after their 30s and 40s, because they want to make a career or save money for a baby or find a reliable man to build family with. Jilly, your age is perfect for ttc! So go for it!

Dear Jilly, you are not to old. The ladies in 40s get pregnant and give birth a healthy baby. If you are healthy and feel ready I don't see any reason not to try to get pregnant. I am really sorry that you had a miscarrage. Be persistant. My hopes are with you.
