Who sets the budget in your family?

In my household, I pay the bills and set the budget and pretty much it's always been this way. I tried turning the bills over to him awhile and at one point, we started bouncing checks. That's when I realized that he was not checking the bank balance before writing checks. I don't mind having this responsibility though sometimes I think he begrudges the limitations that I put on his spending.

In a household, it is always important to set priorities right. Marriage is a give and take affair and each partner is bound to contribute in its growth. Each spouse is bound to listen, understand, internalise and also give suggestions. In my family, we both put on the table what each partner earns, then from facts and figures we can easily draft the budget accordingly. I find it healthy when we collaborate together. Otherwise in some cases when disagreements arise during budget preparation, fights erupt which may not auger well in a house.

    Hi

I agree with your point that you must sit together and draft your budget accordingly. But, I don’t think this can happen in all the houses. In your case, you are only the two who are earning and spending. You have a nuclear family and adjustments are easy in nuclear families. But, when it comes to big families, then there is not a budget thing. It is not easy in a big family where all sit together and decide their budget. In my family, no one sets the budget and I think it is not possible also.
